Hospice Southeast New Brunswick is a registered charity established in 2004 to provide grief and bereavement services and support for patients and families. The 10-bed residence, operated by the community-based not-for-profit organization, provides a comfortable setting to deliver confidential hospice and palliative care services to residents of Albert, Kent, and Westmorland Counties.

POSITION SUMMARY:
We are looking for a qualified and experienced individual to operate and deliver the food service at our Residence located at 156 Pleasent Street, Moncton under the supervision of, and reporting regularly to the Facility Director.
Food Services:
• Regularly meets with patients/families and communicates with the clinical staff to fully understand patient needs and desires related to food services.
• Plans daily and weekly menus for lunch and supper, taking into consideration the needs of the patients.
• Provides fresh (not frozen), high quality, home-made meals and desserts (lunch and supper) which will provide the most enjoyment and in the amounts and type best tolerated by the patients.
• Assists clinical staff on the patient floor with delivery of lunch and supper if there are no volunteers available to assist.
• Maintains a small supply of prepared frozen food options for use as needed and/or for patient alternatives.
• Works to reduce wastage by adjusting the volume of food needed relative to daily patient needs and the number of visitors in house.
• Assesses, stocks and cleans kitchen daily.
• Liaises with food services sponsors and suppliers as required.
• Trains and supervises food services volunteers, ensuring adherence to the established food services quality and safety standards.
• Makes regular recommendations to the Facility Director on improving the food services program, kitchen facilities and equipment to enhance quality, efficiency, effectiveness and safety.
• Creates and maintains a well-kept and appealing physical environment that contributes to effective operations in compliance with all regulatory standards.
• Attends weekly patient/family Interdisciplinary Team Rounds and provides input on patient food services. Participates in other staff meetings as required.
• Makes fresh soup, rolls, and cookies/cakes for the daily Visitor Food Bar. Ensures proper presentation and supplies are available for visitor use. Collects and turns in the money paid to access the food bar.
Inventory Purchase and Management
• Responsible for purchasing all food and kitchen supplies and turns in all purchase slips to the Bookkeeper for payment.
• Ensures food supply stocks are used prior to expiry and discarding or donating expired or unacceptable items.
• Ensures frozen food supplies are used in a timely manner.
• Daily checks all patient/family refrigerators and refrigerators and removes outdated or unlabeled product. Moves patient food leftovers to the family refrigerator or back to the main kitchen for further use by food services.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Graduate of formal training at a college or trade school.
• Mature, responsible individual with a minimum of three years of experience who specializes in and has a passion for quality, traditional home-made meals and desserts.
• Training in food safety and a food safety certificate.
• Physically able to perform all requirements of the job including standing, lifting, etc.
• A positive attitude and a “customer-driven” approach to delivering quality service and building positive community and team relations.
• A background in healthcare or a desire to work with patients and families in a clinical setting.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and team-building skills with a warm, compassionate and caring attitude.
• Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision and maintain confidentiality.
• Organized, efficient, flexible who is comfortable in a fast-paced and changing non-profit healthcare environment and capable of operating related equipment.
• A strong desire to support the work of Hospice Southeast New Brunswick and become a dedicated staff team member.
• Fluency in both official languages is an asset.

Housekeeping Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Facility Director and as a member of Hospice Southeast New Brunswick’s palliative care team, we are looking for a qualified and experienced individual to maintain a safe, clean and attractive environment at the our Hospice Residence located at 156 Pleasent Street, Moncton NB.

DUTIES:
• Provides housekeeping services in a caring and sensitive manner that respects the privacy and dignity of patients and loved ones.
• Accommodates any reasonable request involving housekeeping.
• Creates and maintains a physical environment that contributes to quality of life for people in care and their loved ones.
• Maintains positive resident/guest/team interactions by building a welcoming, helpful environment.
• Supports Hospice’s efforts at reducing goods sent to the garbage/landfill by recycling/composting and/or donating Surplus/unwanted supplies.
• Informs the Facility Director of housekeeping supply and equipment needs.
• Informs the Facility Director of housekeeping issues that require further follow-up or replacement and makes recommendations for a clean and attractive environment.
• Reports to the Facility Director on a daily basis, participates on committees as required and meets on occasion with the Hospice staff team.
• Positively represents Hospice Southeast New Brunswick to the community.
• Abides by all Hospice policies and maintains confidentiality of patient/family and Hospice information.

Cleaning responsibilities:
• Vacuuming, sweeping, mopping and cleaning patient rooms, common space, staff offices, kitchens, dining rooms, living rooms, meeting rooms, laundry areas etc. using the appropriate supplies and equipment.
• Patient, staff and public bathrooms, including sinks, toilets, showers, tubs, commodes, refrigerators etc.
• Walls, windows and dusting.
• Collects garbage, recycling and waste.
• Replenishes supplies such as soap, paper towel, toilet tissue and gloves.
• Completes forms for damaged equipment, property and supplies.
• Prepares cleaning products by following proper procedures.
Health and Safety:
• Observes and practices safe work habits and observes all rules and policies related to health and safety.
• Reports any safety hazards immediately to the Facility Director.
• Takes part in all safety programs provided (i.e., Emergency Preparedness, WHMIS, Infection Control, Privacy/Confidentiality Training, Fire Safety and Back in Form).

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Grade 12 education or equivalent.
• Minimum three years’ experience in laundry/housekeeping duties, preferably in a healthcare facility.
• Mature, responsible individual with a strong desire to support the work of Hospice Southeast New Brunswick and become a dedicated staff team member.
• Must be able to follow written or oral instructions.
• Good communication and interpersonal with a warm, compassionate and caring attitude.
• A positive attitude and the ability to be open-minded, resourceful and flexible in problem solving.
• Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision and to participate as a fully cooperative team member.
• Organized, flexible and capable of operating related equipment.
• Physically able to perform the duties of the position.
• Police check and references required.

STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE:
The Housekeeping Coordinator must demonstrate ongoing competency and a commitment to continuous quality improvement in completing all duties and responsibilities as detailed in this job description, in accordance with all Hospice polices and approved plans.

Position Summary: 
We are looking for a motivated and responsible individual to join our team at Boutique Hospice Shoppe. Reporting to the Shoppe Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible to supervise staff and volunteers and take on management duties in the absence of the Shoppe Manager.

Job Duties
• Provide an accurate and efficient checkout service
Engage customers to enhance loyalty and increase sales
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment
• Answer the telephone in a professional and courteous manner
• Organize and rotate merchandise so it is displayed to maximise sales
• Evaluate and price donations to meet store guidelines
• Guide customers through the sales and donation process
• Promote upcoming organizational fundraisers and in-store events
• Open and close the store in a secure manner
• Meet and communicate with staff and executives
• Supervise staff and volunteers
• Administrative support duties
• Cover management duties in the absence of the Shoppe Manager

Hospice Residence Head Nurse

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are looking for a motivated individual to provide leadership and clinical expertise in this new palliative care setting.  Reporting to the residence’s Facility Manager, the successful candidate will be part of the senior leadership team and will assume the responsibility of the overall nursing care and services provided to patients and their families.

  • Implement a patient/family centered care model providing 24/7 accountability for patient care delivery
  • Implement a quality and risk management program, certifying a safe environment for all
  • Ensure appropriate staffing and resources 24/7 and assist in the delivery of palliative care
  • Manage the budget for the assigned cost centres/departments
  • Collaborate with the Extra-Mural program and liaise with key stakeholders
  • Assist in establishing Human Resources management standards that support effective employer/employee relations, high performance, communication, recruitment, and retention
  • Conduct employee performance appraisals
  • Prepare necessary reports
  • Adhere to the organization’s policies and procedures

 

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and competencies:

  • BN or BScN
  • Registered Nurse in the province of NB
  • Fluent in English and French
  • 5 years of clinical management with 3-5 years of experience in both home healthcare and acute care
  • Experience in hospice palliative end-of-life care nursing
  • Experience in leading a multi-disciplinary team in health care delivery settings
  • Certification in Hospice Palliative Care (HPC) with the Canadian Nurses Association considered an asset or the willingness to acquire the necessary certification within a year
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of Canadian hospice palliative care standards
  • Possess excellent communication, interpersonal and team-building skills with a warm, compassionate, and caring attitude
  • Have a patient-centred approach to delivering quality care and building positive community relations
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office tools such as: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
  • Possess strong organizational skills and leadership skills
